SATURDAY, JANUARY 15, 2011 will be the day for our 41st annual Jack London Birthday Banquet. It will be held at Ramekins Culinary School & Inn, 450 West Spain Street, Sonoma, California. For directions go the website www.ramekins.com and click on Maps & Directions. There will be a no-host bar from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.. Buffet Dinner will start at 7:00 p.m..
Our speaker this year will be Sue Hodson. Sue is curator of literary manuscripts at the Huntington Library, where she has administered the Jack London Papers for over thirty years. She is the co-editor, with Jeanne Reesman, of Jack London: One Hundred Years a Writer and Jack London, Photographer.
Sue Hodson and Jeanne Reesman will sign copies of their new book, Jack London, Photographer, from 6 to 7 P.M.
The 2011 Man-of-the-Year will be Dr. Earle Labor. In 1966, as a visiting professor at Utah State University, he taught the first course on Jack London ever offered in the United States; in 1974, as a Fulbright lecturer at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, he presented the first Jack London course in Western Europe. During the past four decades he has published more than fifty articles and reviews on London, as well as seven books, including the Stanford edition of The Letters of Jack London (1988), The Complete Short Stories of Jack London (1993) and The Portable Jack London (1994). He is currently the Wilson Professor of American Literature and Director of the Jack London Research Center at Centenary College of Louisiana. Earle is putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited Jack London: An American Life for Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
Cost for the Banquet will be $60.00 for Foundation members and $80.00 for nonmembers. There will be a $35.00 ticket for High School students who would like to attend. This is an incentive to attract young individuals into the Jack London World. Bring a high school student or someone interested in Jack London to the banquet with you.
Please make your reservations early. Remember that if you want someone to share your table, have them make reservations at the same time. Seating is reserved according to receipt of check.
The Banquet is to honor Jack London’s 135th birthday and is also a great time to meet new people and get together with old friends. Plan now to attend. You will be glad you did!
